Energy Resources & Environmental Business Division

The company was the first in Japan to succeed in synthesizing methanol (1952) and ammonia (1957) from the rich deposits of natural gas that exist underground in Niigata Prefecture.
Since then, the Energy Resources & Environmental Business Division has been conducted in the exploration and development of crude oil and natural gas in collaboration with other resource development companies, in parallel with our own natural gas development business for about 60 years. In addition, we have participated in geothermal development, LNG-fired power generation projects, and CCS (Carbon-dioxide Capture and Storage) business consideration with which we have an affinity.
In Niigata Prefecture, we conducted in the exploration and development of natural gas and crude oil for supply to our Niigata plant and other purposes, and in the separation of iodine from groundwater pumped up during the extraction of natural gas dissolved in water, and also carbon-neutral business consideration focusing on CCS (Carbon-dioxide Capture and Storage). In Akita and Iwate Prefectures, we conduct in a geothermal power project, and we are also promoting electric power businesses by participating in an LNG-fired power generation project in Fukushima Prefecture, a biomass power project in Hokkaido.
