Launch of Iupizeta™ EP-10000, a polycarbonate resin for smartphone camera lenses with the world’s highest refractive index of 1.68

September 17, 2019

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Masashi Fujii) is pleased to announce the launch of Iupizeta™ EP-10000, a specialty polycarbonate resin for smartphone camera lenses boasting the world’s highest refractive index of 1.68. Iupizeta ™ EP-series specialty polycarbonate resins are widely used in smartphone camera lens units and other devices globally.

Material for camera lens units in smartphones, tablets and other devices is required to have both a high refractive index, which reduces lens thickness, and low birefringence, which improves image sharpness. The Iupizeta™ EP series is unique optical material that achieves these two requirements to a high level, and also has moldability. As increasing demands are placed on smartphones for advanced camera performance, the Iupizeta™ EP series is an indispensable material for camera lenses to meet market needs.

Newly launched Iupizeta™ EP-10000 is an advanced material with the world’s highest refractive index of 1.68, surpassing the 1.67 refractive index of the previously launched Iupizeta™ EP-9000. Iupizeta™ EP-10000 enables even more advanced camera functions while maintaining thinness.

MGC will continue to develop its business in the information and communications domain through expanding sales of Iupizeta™ EP-10000.
