MGC Signs Sponsorship Agreement for Exhibits at the Yokohama City Circular Hub, International Horticultural Expo 2027

 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshinori Isahaya) has signed a sponsorship agreement with the City of Yokohama to become a Triple Star Partner. This agreement pertains to the interactive exhibition of advanced technologies at the "Yokohama City Circular Hub" established within the Urban GX Village by the City of Yokohama during the International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN×EXPO 2027), which will take place in Yokohama, Kanagawa, from March 19 (Fri) to September 26 (Sun), 2027.
 As part of this sponsorship, MGC plans to showcase the following two types of exhibits at the Yokohama City Circular Hub.

■ A circular carbon methanol 「Carbopath^TM」

 As an integrated methanol producer, one of the basic chemicals, MGC is committed to expanding the use of methanol both as a chemical feedstock and as an energy source, including marine fuels. As part of these efforts, in February this year, MGC collaborated with the City of Yokohama to successfully complete ship-to-ship bunkering of methanol vessel fuel at Yokohama Port. Methanol can be synthesized from CO₂ and waste plastics. MGC is advancing “Carbopath^TM”, an environmentally circular platform to generate fuels and chemicals from these resources, aiming to realize a circular economy. At the Yokohama City Circular Hub, MGC will showcase the diverse uses of methanol in our daily lives, from energy applications such as marine fuels, to material application including automotive components and building materials through dioramas, video content, and interactive displays. The exhibit is designed to offer visitors an experience of a sustainable future society, in which waste and CO₂ are recycled as valuable resources through versatile methanol.

■ Integration of Perovskite solar cells and polycarbonate offering light weight, impact resistance, and design flexibility

 In collaboration with EneCoat Technologies Company, Ltd. (EneCoat; Headquarters: Kumiyama-cho, Kuse-gun, Kyoto; President: Naoya Kato), MGC is advancing the development of solar power generation technology based on a new concept that integrates EneCoat’s next-generation solar cells: “perovskite solar cells” with high-performance materials based on our long-established polycarbonate materials and processing technologies. The integration of polycarbonate, which offers light weight, impact resistance, and high design flexibility, with perovskite solar cells will enable a diverse range of unprecedented solar cell installation configurations.
 At Yokohama City Circular Hub, a model depicting a “city of the future”—where perovskite solar cells of various designs naturally blend into the urban landscape while generating energy—demonstrates the potential for installing solar cells in a wide range of locations, such as buildings and infrastructure, where installation has traditionally been difficult.
