Specialty Chemicals Business Sector
Inorganic Chemicals, Engineering Plastics, Optical Materials Division
Developing cutting-edge products
that respond to market needs

The Inorganic Chemicals Division, Engineering Plastics Division, and Optical Materials Division have been concentrating on the development of advanced products directly connected with users’ requirements, for example, ultra-pure chemicals and various kinds of engineering plastic materials in support of the industries of semiconductors and liquid crystals. They are commercialized for use as the detergents of LSI boards, lens materials of high refractive index, and films for liquid crystals. They have been developed mostly in the domestic research and manufacturing facilities in contrast with multipurpose chemicals manufactured extensively in the overseas facilities.
The EL chemicals using mostly ultra-pure Hydrogen peroxide, polycarbonate resin, polyacetal resin, and polyphenylene ether resin are manufactured in the cost-competitive overseas facilities so that higher product quality and technical services can be offered worldwide. In this manner, the company is structuring a system by which the differentiation technology brought up domestically can be developed overseas in turn.
Electronics Materials, Oxygen Absorbers Division
Drawing on outstanding technical prowess and an extensive track record to pursue high-performance, high-value-added solutions

In today's rapidly changing market environment, the Electronics Materials Division and Oxygen Absorbers Division are working to form closer relationships with our customers in order to better anticipate their needs. At the same time, we aspire to strengthen our operating base by rapidly developing and improving our distinctive, advanced, low-cost, high-quality products and shifting towards high-value-added operations.
We respond quickly to our customers' needs, offering the ideal products at the optimum volume on the appropriate schedule, in order to succeed in the face of intense global competition and to develop businesses with major presence.
Inorganic Chemicals Division
Through developing Hydrogen peroxide and its derivatives, and new functional products that even better meet customers’ needs, we are expanding in a variety of inorganic chemicals.
Hydrogen peroxide poses a low environmental load, and has many uses as bleach, disinfectant, oxidizer, and metal polish. Its representative application is as bleach for paper pulp, and as a chemical compound raw material. This Company also offers various cleaning agents used in the most advanced electronics industry, such as super-pure hydrogen peroxide for electronics use, through many years of product development tailor-made to fulfill customer needs. Other products include creative fine chemicals, such as peracetic acid for food additives (DIAPOWER™FP), which is used to wash and disinfect food.

Engineering Plastics Division
Engineering plastics are industrial plastics that have excellent mechanical strength and heat resistance. These resins, which were self-developed at this company, are used in all kinds of everyday items.
Some examples are,
- Iupilon Polycarbonate Resin, which is indispensable to optical disks , Light Guiding Panels and LED (light emitting diode) Lightings etc.
- Iupilon Sheet / Iupilon Film, used in flat panel displays
- Iupital, used in mechanical components
- Iupiace, used in OA equipment chassis
- Reny, used in automotive components
MGC develops engineering plastics with its own original technology, and produces them in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, and China. Furthermore, we are aggressively pursuing market development for next generation products, such as a super engineering plastic polyamide-imide resin called AI Polymer.

Optical Materials Division
To provide the best optical solutions, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical established the Optical Materials Division in April 2019.
The optical materials market is constantly growing across industries as image processing capabilities have improved and the technology has been made widely available and expanded across many applications. This has led to standardized installation of high-performance cameras in smartphones and other IT devices and in-vehicle installation of such systems, and thus the market needs have also been further diversified and demanding.
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical strives to solve customers’ problems using various optical materials products with advanced optical properties, such as high transparency and refractive index, combined with our expert knowledge about optical control. Specifically, our proprietary optical materials products are used in lenses for cameras and eyeglasses, electrophotographic photoreceptors, optical adhesives, imprint materials, optical sheets, photoresists and many other applications, to bring people a better, more comfortable life.

Electronics Materials Division
In the electronics field, MGC was the first company in Japan to develop the base material for PWBs (for transistor radios), and since then has continued to offer highly functional, high performance products that meet the stringent requirements of the electronics industry. In our three facilities, we produce some unique materials. BT laminates based on BT resin, our own invention, are widely used in IC plastic packages, high frequency devices, and similar electronic devices. We have developed high performance epoxy laminates for the communications field that requires high speed and multi function. Laminates are not the only products we produce for the PWB industry. We also make LE(Lubricated entry) SHEET. LE SHEET is an entry sheet that helps to make good quality holes with mechanical drilling. Our products are widely used by customers in Japan and throughout the world. We will continue development with our highly sophisticated technology in order to meet the increasingly more complicated and density-oriented needs of the electronics industry.

Oxygen Absorbers Division
AGELESS, the world’s first oxygen absorber, extends the shelf life of food by protecting its original fresh taste, aroma and texture. AGELESS also permits food-processing companies to create new, innovative packaging designs and more economical distribution methods. By eliminating oxygen in the package, our customers can preserve the original quality of foods without adding preservatives or additives.
Oxygen absorbers have been used for years in varios fields that go far beyond the food sector. The anaerobic cultivation system AnaeroPack is one of the leading oxygen absorbers in the field of microbiology. The RP system is a quality maintenance system for use with metals and electronic components as well as protecting cultural assets. The oxygen absorbing desiccant, PharmaKeep, works in completely dry conditions and was specifically designed for use with pharmaceuticals.
The oxygen absorbing film, AGELESS OMAC, is a cutting edge, multilayer film which absorbs oxygen without the use of canisters or sachets to protect and extend the shelf life of a variety of products.
