Energy & Resources Division

Our company was the first in Japan to succeed in synthesizing Methanol (1952) and Ammonia (1957) from the rich deposits of natural gas that exist underground in Niigata prefecture. Since then, the Energy & Resources Division has carried out exploration and development for natural gas over 50 years in cooperation with other resource development companies.
The Natural Gas Chemicals Company is developing a line of strongly linked businesses involved in natural gas, beginning with the development of natural gas resources and spanning from chemical commodities such as Methanol , Ammonia and formalin, all the way to the organic compounds that are their derivatives.

The Energy & Resources Division is conducting exploration and development for natural gas and oil in Niigata. The natural gas produced is mainly furnished to our company’s Niigata Plant to be used as the raw materials and fuels for producing chemical products. Furthermore, the oil produced in associated with natural gas is being sold to petroleum refineries. In addition, we are conducting a project to separate iodine from groundwater drawn up when extracting natural gas dissolved in water. And in Akita, geothermal energy development is also ongoing.
